NEPAL: LANGTANG  HELAMBU TREK Situated near the Tibetan border the Langtang National Park is dominated by the Langtang Lirung (7205m) and other majestic Himalayan peaks.  After your arrival and som first sightseeing you will drive from the capital through marvellous terraced landscapes towards the northern border of Nepal with Tibet. Here dominate the Tamang people, a tibetan tribe sellted centuries ago in this area. The trek leads first through paddy fields and bamboo forests until reaching the alpine meadows at Kyanjin Gompa (3730 m). The upper valley here is surrounded by numerous mountains and glaciers, which you will also explore. Here the famous real Yak cheese can be tasted at the little cheese factory. Descend the again back to Ghodetabela to trek uphill to Sing Gompa (Chautara) to the lakes of Gosainkunda Lekh. Along the trail get beautiful views of Ganesh Himal and also of the mighty Sisha Pangma (8027 m), entirely in Tibet. The area of Gosaikunda (4400 m) with it’s many lakes is revered by Hindus for the god Shiva who appears it is said here to the faithful in the holy lake. Many Tamang shamans come to the  lake for ceremonies. Crossing the 4600 m high Laurebina La you will desced in the lovely “hill” area of the Helambu, where the Tamangs live. With a little luck you can watch leopards, red pandas or many other animals in the Langtang National Park. The culture of the Tamangs dominates the itinerary and the Rhododendron forests blossom spectacularly during spring season in the Helambu.
